Practical solutions, delivered efficiently.

Independent

No ties or commissions from any lift company. Our only interest is yours.

Poacher turned gamekeeper

We ran a lift company for three decades. We know the contract terms, the shortcuts and how the work is priced.

Principals, not juniors

You deal directly with Pat or John Horgan, from first survey to final handover.

The Pat of least resistance

Clients' nickname for Pat, and still our approach: no paperwork for its own sake, just the right fix at the right price.

“We don't worry about lifts any more. We've handed that job to the Horgans!”
Services

From a single inspection to managing a full lift project.

Statutory inspections & condition surveys

Statutory inspections and independent condition surveys, with costed recommendations you can plan and budget around.

Client-focused maintenance contracts

Standard industry contracts are full of omissions and caveats. We write maintenance contracts that work for you, then negotiate them with the contractor.

Refurbishment & modernisation

Controllers, car interiors and drives: specified, tendered and managed so the work is done right first time.

New lift projects

Design, specification, tender and project management of new installations, from the first drawing to the day the lifts go into service.

Traffic analysis

Software will say whatever its inputs tell it to. Years of watching how buildings, lifts and people really move is what gets the parameters, and the answer, right.

Testing, snagging & handover

We test every lift properly and chase every small item. No half measures at handover.

Accident investigation & specialist lifts

Independent investigation after incidents, and specialist installations including ATEX (explosion-proof) lifts.

Every kind of vertical transport: passenger lifts · goods lifts · hotel lifts · hospital lifts · escalators · travelators · platform lifts · ATEX lifts

How we run a project

  1. 01
    Survey & analyse
Listening to what the client really needs is where every good project starts.
  2. 02
    Specify & tender
Knowing which companies, and which products, suit the job is how you get the right result.
  3. 03
    Negotiate
Knowing what the other side is thinking, and when to push or settle, gets you the best deal.
  4. 04
    Manage installation
Knowing how a lift goes in, how crews work and which items are critical makes a good installation.
  5. 05
    Test, snag & hand over
Every item closed out before we accept the lift. No half measures.

About us

Poachers turned gamekeepers.

Pat and John Horgan founded Midwestern Lift Services and ran it for nearly 30 years, growing it to over 200 staff, more than 5,000 lifts under service and over 700 new installations a year, operating in Ireland, the UK, Germany and Spain, and working with lift manufacturers from across Europe and Asia.

For three decades we sat on the other side of the table, selling lifts, writing service contracts and running the engineers. We know the clauses that quietly cut your cover and the shortcuts a busy contractor might take. We know the difference between a good engineer and a bad one, and between a lift that has been reset and one that has actually been fixed. We know when a job needs a senior engineer, when a part should be replaced rather than patched, and how to spot a lift that needs more than a service before it lets you down.

Now all of that works for you. Engineers across the industry still ring us for advice, and we trained many of the inspectors carrying out statutory inspections around the country today. We know the standard that's out there, and we hold ourselves above it.

Outside work, we're heavily involved in our local GAA club, Mungret St Paul's, and in helping build the community around it. We also love a round of golf, however badly we play it. If a deal ever needs to be done over 18 holes, count us in.
